People come to Hollywood expecting to experience the popular notions of glamour, wealth and exclusivity- only to find a wasteland of desperate salesmen, proletariat ubiquity and film-industry fallout. Somewhere between it all, the locals carve out a kind of existence, a lifestyle formed by tourist money, dirty terrazzo and the sound of LAPD sirens. Maybe they came here with the same foolish intentions, but have since set down cautious roots, like ragged salsola in some hybrid, urban steppe.
